And now the itching has begun… Jack is finding the punctures and the shaved portion of his head very itchy and has stated scratching, then wincing from his paw as he touches the swollen bits of his face. Time to get an E-Collar! Luckily, I took the precaution of measuring his neck while he was napping, but then the motorcycle wouldn’t start and Mr. Kat has the truck today–which also didn’t want to start–because his car wouldn’t start this morning either! So I called the neighbor for a ride and she brought me a collar they had for their dog. Alas… it’s just a little too large and I’m having trouble cutting it down and keeping it on Jack’s head and him mobile in the crate. So many complications….

Calendula cream will ease his itching & speed up the healing process, plus it’s not harmful if it gets licked off/ingested.We’ve been using it for years on dogs, cats, horses & people.

  2. Will it help with the edema? We’re using warm compresses on him several times a day and I suspect the water may be contributing to dry, itchy skin.

That I can’t say for certain as we never had to deal w/ a pet w/ edema, but it might. It’s worked on everything from toothaches to burns to speeding up the recovery of a horse that impaled itself plowing through a fence. It’s worth a shot though.

  4. ouch… well, it can’t hurt. Thanks for the idea. 🙂
