Alfred Molina Film Festival!

All right, so… Mr. Kat and I just watched a funny little English romcom called Undertaking Betty in which Mr. Molina and Chris Walken play rival undertakers in the Welsh town of Wrotting-Powys, and we feel we need to have an Alfredo Molina film festival after this. We laughed our asses off over this film. Of course we have very strange taste, but still….

Mr. Molina first really caught our attention in Chocolat as the Comte de Reynaud. And then we saw him again in the otherwise-highly-forgettable Spiderman 2 as Doc Oc–the saving grace of that film. But did you realize he also played Indy’s assistant in the opening sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark? Yes he did! and he played Cezare, the hunter, in Ladyhawke and the camel-racing entrepreneur Sheik Amar in Prince of Persia–another vignette that raised a film above its flaccid script. He played the marvelously evil Hovarth in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice–a film that would have been pretty damned good if Nic Cage could just remember to act and the ending had utilized the nerdy apprentice using the electric impulse of magic like a cardiac crash cart instead of the ridiculous magical infusion. But hell: Alfred Molina! He Rocks! Now I’m looking forward to Rango since he plays the voice of “Roadkill”. Oh, Mr. Molina… I adore you. Be my Carlos. Pleeeeeeaese?

You and Mr. Kat have got great taste. Mr. Molina is simply outstanding. I LOVED him in Sorceror’s Apprentice but do think his role could have had more teeth.

And in Chocolat – sheer perfect perfection!

I have however not heard of Undertaking Betty so will definitely rent this. A movie which I think may appeal to you and Mr. Kat is something we happened across recently on our Blockbuster list and it stars the incomparable Mr. Bill Nighy and the gorgeous Emily Blunt and it’s called Wild Target – it even has Rupert “Ron from Harry Potter” Grint in it. Quirky and fun and just so very off the wall.

Ooh, I love Alfred Molina! He’s one of those actors that few people seem to understand how wonderful (and sexy!) he is, but I do. 🙂 I even watched the sit-com (can’t remember the name now), that he was in many years ago now.

My favorite Alfred Molina role is in a little movie called The Perez Family, where he plays a Cuban immigrant alongside Marisa Tomei and Anjelica Huston. Not that many people have seen it, but I absolutely love it! 😀 It’s fun and sad and a bit quirky.

  3. I think one of the things that makes Molina interesting is crooked smile. He can look sinister or sweet just by how much he smiles. And he’s got the ability to seem like he’s acting straight to YOU.
